Maine Prevention Certification Board

THE INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATION & RECIPROCITY CONSORTIUM is the global leader in the credentialing of prevention, addiction treatment, and recovery professionals. Organized in 1981, it provides standards and examinations to certification and licensing boards in 24 countries, 47 states and territories, five Native American regions, and all branches of the U.S. military.

RECIPROCITY: Because the MPCB is an IC&RC member, Maine’s Certified Prevention Specialists (PS-C) can receive reciprocal certification from any other IC&RC member board. Each certifying body that belongs to the IC&RC agrees to use the IC&RC’s minimum standards for reciprocity‐eligible certifications. Each IC&RC member board agrees to accept the reciprocity‐eligible certification(s) of other IC&RC member boards. IC&RC member boards can also offer certifications that are not reciprocity‐eligible. In Maine, the Provisional Prevention Specialist certification is not reciprocal.

IC&RC ON-LINE EXAMINATION: The IC&RC exam is required for the Certified Prevention Specialist credential. It consists of 150 multiple‐choice questions which address the six prevention performance domains. All examinations are administered on-line at approved testing centers. They are available any time the centers are open, but must be scheduled in advance. Maine has three testing centers, in Auburn, South Portland and Bangor, as well as a proctored virtual option. Maine Prevention Trainings Calendar – The Maine Workforce Development Workgroup and the Maine Prevention Certification Bard have partnered with community providers across the state to create a shared prevention training calendar. Prevention Technology Transfer Network – The purpose of the PTTC is to improve implementation and delivery of effective substance abuse prevention interventions, and provide training and technical assistance services to the substance abuse prevention field.
