Re-Certification for Prevention Specialist

Certification Period & Renewal: The Maine certification period for the PS-C is two years from the time of approval. Forty (40) hours of documented continuing education is required every two years for re-certification. Six (6) hours must come from an approved Prevention Ethics Training. A recommitment to the Code of Ethical Standards is required. Applicants are required to resubmit a signed, copy of the Code of Ethical Standards.

Documenting Education: Education hours by discipline must be documented on the Maine Certified Prevention Specialist Education Documentation form in the re-certification application packet and accompanied with certificates of completion for each documented training/workshop.

The re-certification fee for the Certified Prevention Specialist is $75.00.

To allow sufficient time for review and approval by the Maine Prevention Certification Board, it is strongly encouraged that applicants submit a completed re-certification application at least 30 days before expiration in order to avoid a lapse in certification and associated late fees.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to notify the Maine Prevention Certification Board of any contact information changes such as name, address, email address, and phone number during the two years of certification. A lack of communication from the applicant about such changes could delay the re-certification process. Failure to re-certify will result in the loss of the Prevention Certificate.
